Exemplar 4 - VET - YNH Services
Overview of use: YNH Services is an adult & community education (ACE) learning centre and neighbourhood house offering their Certificate IV in Training and Assessment students the opportunity to use an e-portfolio to submit their work.
Institution: e-Portfolio context: YNH Services has recognised a need to enable VET tutors with e-learning skills to prepare and maintain e-portfolios to assist in implementing e-learning strategies for themselves. Without the appropriate skills to deliver using e-learning technologies tutors are unable to make e-learning easily accessible to students, particularly those with low IT literacy skills. By exploring the use of an e-portfolio system for collection of evidence for assessment the tutors have experienced first-hand the benefits of collecting, selecting and presenting their achievements.
2010 Stage 1: YNH Services introduced the unit TAADEL501A into Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and as part of the assessment for this unit students were required to submit their portfolio of assessments in the form of a Mahara e-portfolio.
2011 Stage 2: YNH Services will introduce the unit CHCORG428A into Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (the Reflect & Connect unit) and students will gain specialised knowledge and experience in using Mahara for their e-portfolios. YNH Services have implemented their own Mahara system for this purpose.
