Exemplar 7: e-Portfolios in Pharmacy and Pharmacy Practice.

e-Portfolio context: The School of Pharmacy has incrementally been integrating the University e-Portfolio system across its courses, particularly in the areas of Personal Development Planning, Employability and Graduate Skills, Continuous Professional Development Courses and as a means of tracking student skills development in line with professional and statutory body requirements. This case study consists of 5 sub-case studies demonstrating the growth of the use of the e-Portfolio in this subject area.
Introducing professional practice
- Introduction to the Study of Pharmacy (PH-1213L) is a level 4 introductory module to the study of pharmacy and the role of professional standards in practice. Business and Commercial skills
- Management Skills for Pharmacists (LSS3000D) a 3rd year module delivered by the University Careers Service with the aim of enhancing students’ understanding of self management, and the management of others in a team using a case study approach to explore a range of management issues. - Optional Studies - Business Practice and Commercial Awareness for Pharmacists (LSS3001D), a 3rd year module delivered by the University’s Careers Service to introduce the concept of commercial awareness by drawing on a range of business case studies from across a variety of commercial areas; and to provide pharmacy students with the opportunity to develop the business skills and knowledge necessary to run a commercial venture. Reason for implementation:
- Easier and more consistent support of students whether on campus or off campus. Support for full-time undergraduates through to CPD for professionals in practice studying part-time, at a distance whilst working
- The facility to share students’ work quickly and easily with a range of tutors and work-place mentors and assessors to facilitate meetings and feedback is a particular benefit
