Psychology (Course Level)

Psychology (course level) Eportfolio is in place across all levels of the undergraduate Psychology course. The examples below show where in the modular curriculum eportfolio is embedded. The overall numbers of students using eportfolio in Psychology are as follows:
L4 – 160
L5 – 120
L6 – 150
The overarching aims of using e-portfolio across the Psychology course is to support students so they are better able to:
- Develop skills
- Identify areas for development
- Break down targets
- Record achievements
- Engage in the discursive nature of blogs with peers an tutors
- Have a systematic way of recording meetings
- Build on previous use of eportfolio in preceding levels
Eportfolio context: what level, modules, how are they linked? how many staff and students involved?
Level 4 example 1:Themes and Practice (Year Long module). Students work in groups on tutorials, and tutor led sessions, produce work and share in groups on Pebble for comment. 160 level 4 students and 25 academic staff.

Reason for implementation:
As part of the university wide Learning Works project where the institution moved from a 15 to 20 credit modular framework. All courses were re-validated and this gave an opportunity to look at Blended Learning at course level.

Assessment and to support working in groups
Learning process involved: what do the students have to do?
Critical Reading and reflection through the use of a number of individual and group blogs
Eportfolio context: what level, modules, how are they linked? how many staff and students involved?
Level 4 module example 2: Historical and Conceptual Themes in Psychology (Sem 1). All L4 students, 1 member of academic staff (WN)

Purpose: what process(es) is it supporting?
Assessment, PDP - key skills of working in groups and presentation skills.
Learning process involved: what do the students have to do?
Work in a group, research a key figure in psychology, appraise their own presentation skills and present. Students work in a group to produce a presentation. Through group blogs (around 5 students in each group) they create a group contract, note minutes, create an action plan. They then film their presentation and are given guidelines on how to critically appraise it with a view to improving for the summative assessment. They contribute their appraisal to the group blog and finally write up a group assessment of how they performed and how they worked as a group
