An overview of use

Exemplar

Institution: Thanet College

e-Portfolio context:  A Personal Learning Plan for all students on all courses is collaboratively developed within the College VLE using Moodle PLP developed by the University of London. Thanet College believes that every learner will have a better experience of studying and achieving if we are able to make plans to support learning that are personalised for, and personal to, the learner.  There are many ways learning can be personalised but we want to use a Personal Learning Plan in particular to formally record how that learning journey looks. Like any plan, it must contain elements that make it clear to all those concerned, and primarily the learner, the measures of success for a given learner and the ongoing progress made towards achieving success.  The PLP must state what is required, where the learner’s journey starts, what needs to be done and what has been done in order to make sure the goals are reached in a timeframe.

Dates of provision: Ongoing from September 2010

Reason for implementation:  The need to make sure every student takes part in planning and tracking their learning journey to support attainment and success.

Purpose/s:  Student progression - Assessing current needs and providing a framework for goal setting and reflection on performance.

Learning processes involved:  Goal setting, recording possible barriers to learning feedback, reflection, collaboration, set in long term goals, and short term targets designed to stretch the learner.

Practice:  (Developing . All students are following this but it is only three months into the Project.)

Key staff involved: Course tutors, led by College Learner Voice Tutor

Our criteria for describing the properties of a portfolio helped define, by describing opposites what we wanted from a PLP.

We saw the need to establish three pillars of e-learning that we define as follows:

At the end of the course, each element goes through the following process:
