Table 1 provides an overview of implementation and links to examplars of effective e-portfolio use. Efective use was judged using the ePI framework.
Whole course use:
Assessment
Languages are using them for portfolio based assessment, using flip cameras to record conversations.
Cross institution use:
Learning profiles
We are using the e-portfolio at the start of the year to develop learning profiles, the students can put anything into it that they want their teachers to see in order to to get a picture of where they are with their learning, what their interests are, what their action plan is, etc. This is supported by the tutorial process.
Impact projects
On Wednesdays there are no timetabled classes so the students work for 300 minutes for 15 weeks on a project of their choice (their impact project). They capture all of their learning in an e-portfolio where they have to identify success criteria and key stakeholders. They include feedback from their learning mentor and stakeholders in their summative portfolio. One Impact Project involved the creation of Ourtube the High School version of Youtube for 'safe' uploading and sharing of video on a school server.
The future:
e-Portfolio based assessment
We are also using them to develop e-portfolio based assessment for next year. So in summary we are using them in four main ways:
1. Learner Profile
2. Learning Journal
3. Portfolio based assessment
4. Evaluation and reporting
