PDP and employability

Early use of PDP was in Computing and in Child Care courses

EXEMPLAR 1 - examples from 2006

EXEMPLAR 2 - covers later use of PDP in 2007 and reflections on use by tutors of e-portfolios for PDP in 7 different courses across the whole institution

Many Building Crafts, Engineering and Sports courses use e-portfolios to promote employability. These and other courses also use the e-portfolio to promote citizenship.

EXEMPLAR 3 - this provides a summary of use 2008/9
Student experience on the construction course

Personal tutorial and guidance: College Tutorial policy for personal tutors requires the use of Individual Learning Plans especially for FE students. These are available through the e-portfolio system and therefore many utilise this method. Use of support staff for tutorials was found not to work and academic staff have this role

EXEMPLAR 4 provides an update on use 2009/10

EXEMPLAR 5 covers later use 2010/11

Table 1 provides an overview of implementation and links to exemplars of effective e-portfolio use. Effective use was judged using the ePI framework.

This PowerPoint presentation gives an overview of current use 2010/11 within the college: e-portfolios SQA.ppt  It contains links to exemplar e-portfolio pages from different courses

Whole-course use: Early use involved PDP work in course based tutorial sessions. For many Building Crafts, Engineering and Sports courses e-portfolios are used to promote employability. These and other courses also use the e-portfolio to promote citizenship.

Cross institution use: Tutorial and Guidance role: College Tutorial policy for personal tutors requires the use of Individual Learning Plans especially for FE students. These were  originally made available through the e-portfolio system but do not appear within the VLE as this process is integrated more fully into the curriculum.

The  Internet Safety module is all online and the e-portfolio is used to record assessment activity. Graded Unit work logs are kept by posting activity and marking resources found as part of research.

Continuing professional development materials have been developed that have been added to the College's version of JISC e-Skills course to show staff a range of use. An informal 12 week lesson plan has been introduced in the Construction area within the e-portfolio and is now being included into a developing online staff development course that includes screen casts to set up posts, pages and uploads.
