TAFE NSW Western Sydney Institute is committed to supporting the implementation of an e-portfolio tool to enhance learning and assessment and increase learner engagement in a Vocational Education context.

Institution: e-Portfolio context:   TAFE NSW Western Sydney Institute has been supporting and encouraging e-portfolio use since mid 2009. In that time, Hairdressing at the Nepean Campus has used Mahara with nine groups of apprentices for delivery of course content and assessment. It has also given the apprentices an opportunity to showcase their skills for job-seeking and career development.   The Mahara application has also been used with a diverse group of young rugby league players who are using e-portfolios to gain qualifications in Information Technology and Sport and Fitness through assessment and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

 

Dates of provision:  Ranging from mid 2009 to present

 

Reason for implementation: Teachers wanted an e-tool that could be used to gather work based evidence and increase learner engagement. 

 

Purpose/s: Course delivery, Work Based Learning, assessment including recognition of prior learning (RPL), showcasing skills and achievements.
 

 

Learning processes involved:   Information capture, Information retrieval, Planning, Reflection, Feedback, Collaboration, Presentation, Digital Literacy and Ethics
