Exemplar 11: University Performance Review and Appraisal (Pilot)
Institution: University of Bradford, Centre for Educational Development.
e-Portfolio context: In 2008 the University developed and implemented a new Annual Performance Review for all academic staff (http://www.bradford.ac.uk/human-resources/information-for-staff/policies-procedures-processes/performance-review/). This replaced the previous process and became mandatory. In the Centre for Educational Development we decided to use the e-portfolio to manage and record this process. It allows easy recording sharing of each stage of the 3 stage process (see example http://www.pebblepad.co.uk/bradford/webfolio.aspx?webfolioid=434682):
- Pre-meeting self-review of performance against previous year’s targets (Form A)
- Face to face review meeting, a record of a summary and agreed targets are recorded (Form B)
- A personal development plan related to set targets (Form C)
Dates of provision: 2008 to present.
Reason for implementation: easier sharing of information prior, during and post review meeting, removal of paper copies, control of content and who it is shared with.
Purpose/s: Continuing Professional Development of Staff, Work Based Learning, Performance Review and Appraisal.
Learning processes involved: Information capture, Information retrieval, Planning, Reflection, Feedback, Presentation.
Practice: Developing. The University has since implemented a new IT system for its HR functions, which offers a similar facility. The University is in the process of deciding which one to use.
Key staff involved: Neil Currant, Peter Hartley and CED staff.
